Who should do LASER HAIR REDUCTION?

1. Removal of Unwanted body hair for cosmetic reason, age more than 15 years
2. Hirsutism
3. Medical reasons: Pseudofolliculitis and sycosis barbae, Pilonidal sinus etc

Who shouldn’t do LASER hair reduction?

1. Less than 15 years of age unless medically indicated
2. Photosensitive disease like SLE
3. Active skin infection
4. Uncooperative patients and patients with unrealistic expectations

What not to do before LASER hair reduction?

1. bleaching, plucking, thermolysis or electrolysis or waxing in treatment areas should be avoided.
2. avoid sunbathing, swimming and other activities which might produce tanning of treatment areas.
3. Avoid any over the counter products, remedies before LASER

Laser Hair Removal Procedure (Guideline followed at CARA):

1. Hair is trimmed with electrical trimmer or shaved or the patient is advised to trim 48 hours before the LASER
2. The area to be trated is cleaned and made free of make up if any.
3. Local Topical Anaesthesia may be necessary for nervous patient
4. Cooling is essential during and after the treatment; inbuilt cooling is available at CARA SKIN LASERs.
5. Standard precautionary measures are observed for all devices:
6. Eyes of the patient is wrapped with white gauze pieces or covered with eye protective devices such as goggles (as specified in the Laser manufacturer′s manual).
7. The treating doctor and assistant use the goggles.
8. An emergency hazard switch is ready to be used-provided in all systems for immediate shut-off of systems in case of accidents.
9. A "test patch" is performed and this guides as the parameters for treatment.
10. Surgical jelly is used except in the case of LHE systems.
11. The hand piece of the system is placed perpendicularly to the skin surface (gently but to press sufficiently to displace blood from capillaries and to bring the hair follicle nearer to the aiming source).
12. All areas can treat in one sitting.
13. Overlapping of hand pieces in treating adjacent areas (10%) is generally accepted.
14. The presence of any severe erythema/blisters in the previously treated areas is alerted the physician to reduce fluence or halt the procedure (rarely needed if proper selection of the patient and test patch has been performed).
15. After the entire procedure is complete, chilled Eau Thermal water or ice packs is used.
16. Proper sunscreen block or Lotion is applied.
